Does any hardware store workers know if hardware stores will give me their scrap glass for free?

Wilfredo Muldoon: I worked in a big hardware store for 9 years (to the day) and took home a couple of dozen pounds of cutoffs. What you have to do is bypass the safety needs of the store to protect customers and employees what are normally a heavy box into which the cutoffs are broken as they are taken off. So I made a 3' tall heavy wooden box that was 6"x4" inside and open on the end with a heavy carrying handle on the side near the top. I put my name on it and asked for longer wider cutoffs that would fit. Because of the sizes glass comes in, there will rarely be wider cutoffs. You have to ask for and get permission and there has to be a somewhat out of the way spot near the glass cutting machine to stand the box on end. Check it frequently (every couple of days) and take it home when it has some. Check the weight - and inch or more of glass is fairly heavy.http://www.mikegigi.com/warmglas.htm#FUSEDBOWL...Show more
