Beer Gravy? is it really made?

Raelene Cunnick: If it's listed in the ingredients, then that should have given you the answer. Yes, there is beer in beer gravy. NO, there is no alcohol left in the gravy to get you or anyone drunk.

Germaine Tieken: I like making Bratwurst with peppers and onions and cook them in beer. Makes sort of a Beer Gravy and it's very tasty.

Vickie Clampett: camping requires either carrying along a lot of water for drinking and cooking or other liquids like beer and soda. I have used both or rather all for making gravy on campfire! Have also used those guys beer to make pancakes and biscuits at the camp site.Yes, you can use beer for the liquid in your gravy even at home. It does foam a lot so be ready with the whisk to stir rapidly! It gives the gravy a malty/hops flavor but by the time it has cooked to thickness there is no more alcohol left than would be in a cake from adding vanilla extract!...Show more

Carolynn Testani: Why would they list that in the ingre! dients otherwise? It's just for flavor, like wine in Madeira sauce or coffee in red eye gravy.

Gregory Dilg: Yes it is real and here is the recipe. It appears to go well with sausages and in shepherd's pie and Rachel Ray even has a recipe with it in it.Beer Gravy2 tbsp. pan drippings from chicken 2 tbsp. all purpose flour1 cup good beer (if you would not drink it don't use it)1 cup chicken brothsalt and pepper 1) Add the flour to the pan drippings and stir until smooth.2)Gradually add beer and chicken broth, stirring constantly until the gravy is smooth and thick.3)Adjust the consistency with the broth, if needed.4)Add salt and pepper to taste.** The alcohol will cook out but the flavor of the beer or alcoholic beverage will remain....Show more

Flor Lizardi: Beer, cognac, white wine, red whine, madeira, champagneThose are a few examples of what you make sauce with.I have tried them all and I could say that a can of beer with some meat stock, juices and fat from ! the pan you cook the meat in and herbs make the most AMAZING g! ravy (for meat and also chicken) Beer has a lot of spices in it but they taste diffrently with alcohol and acidness but when you cook it, all of that disappears and you're left with a fluid full of flavour. Here are tips for cooking with liqour and what it goes best with!Beer gravy (Add 1 can) = Meat and chicken. Add some onion!Cognac (Add 2 tablespoons) = Meat. Add only stock, cognac is like a more powerful Madeira.Madeira (1/3 - 1/2 a cup) = Meat. Add only stock, madeira is packed with flavour.White wine (0,75 - 1 cup) = Fish. Add some stock, lemon zest and dill!Red wine (0,75 - 1 cup) = Meat. Add some stock, tyme leaves and shallots!Champagne (1/4 a cup) = Meat, chicken and fish, add some meat stock, chicken stock or fish stock! You can add cream to all of above, it will be thicker and more interesting. However add some soy sauce to get that brown color so it's not white or beige/grey...Show more
